Blue Water Task Force
Peconic Baykeeper is a proud member of the Eastern Long Island-Southampton chapter of The Blue Water Task Force, a volunteer-run water quality monitoring and testing program hosted by The Surfrider Foundation. This program is a way to identify any potential problems with pollution that we may face in our coastal waters, which allows us to be proactive in protecting our local waterways! Peconic Baykeeper regularly collects water samples at three locations: Ponquogue Beach, Ponquogue Bridge Marina, and Maschutt Beach. Check out our Facebook page for our latest updates.
Why is this important?
The samples we take from our local beaches gets tested for Enterococcus, a coliform bacteria that indicates fecal pollution (human or animal waste) and other pathogens that can lead to skin irritation or even illness. We routinely post the results on our facebook page, so check back periodically!
Want to learn more about where samples are taken and results? Check out The Surfrider Foundation website for more details.
