Rain Barrel Workshop: Collect & Protect

Peconic Baykeeper is excited to announce a new workshop series funded by North Fork Side by Side! This series will be open to residents of the North Fork and Riverhead.

Join us for a hands-on Rain Barrel Workshop where you’ll build your very own rain barrel and increase your knowledge of water stewardship and conservation!  This interactive event is perfect for homeowners, gardeners, and anyone interested in sustainability and protecting our local waterways.

During the workshop, you’ll:

  • Listen to a 30 minute presentation on water stewardship and conservation.
  • Assemble your own rain barrel to collect rainwater.
  • Learn how rain barrels help conserve water, reduce stormwater runoff, and protect streams, rivers, and lakes.
  • Discover how rain gardens and other green infrastructure support healthy local ecosystems.
  • Gain practical tips on installing and maintaining your rain barrel, and how to incorporate it into your home landscape.

Why it matters:
Rain barrels and rain gardens are simple yet powerful tools in reducing pollution, preventing erosion, and improving water quality in our community. By participating, you’re helping to build a cleaner more resilient environment in your own backyard while protecting our precious waterways!

All materials are provided and no prior experience is necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved! You are welcome to bring your own tools if you have them but we will have some to share.

Space is limited — registration is required.  There will be 15 spots (barrels) available in each workshop. Friends and family are welcome to work on one barrel together. Let’s work together to make a difference, one barrel at a time!
